Amy’s Ride/Run/Walk
Photo of the day #21

Random photo from my collection.
This horribly underexposed photo depicts the 2-mile marker for Amy’s Ride/Run/Walk 5K-ish walk. This was the first year I had participated and helped with marketing for the event. This was Amy’s Ride/Run/Walk’s first year back to an in-person event since COVID-19. It was a modified event, allowing for virtual participation and having “rolling starts” where participants would start their event after arrival rather than waiting for a mass start. There’s a lot that I could write about my relationship with Amy’s Ride/Run/Walk, but I’ll try to keep it brief.
When I first began working with the Pancreatic Cancer Cure Foundation (PCCF) and their event, Amy’s Ride/Run/Walk, I recall feeling a renewed sense of purpose. When I had worked in the telecom industry for almost a decade, I didn’t feel the fulfillment that I felt when I knew I was directly impacting a cause. It was refreshing to feel that something I did would actually make a difference. Since then, I have continued to be drawn to mission-based marketing clients. At times, I wish I didn’t. I’m too empathetic. Being stamped “non-profit” also makes me feel too guilty to charge what I should. It’s not the most profitable calling.
Lately, I’ve been trying to figure out how to use my talents AND regain some time freedom with recurring revenue. Actually, that is how this Photo of the Day project was conceived. One of the challenges in a course that I’m in, is to post content consistently. Now, the idea was not to post about my photography and my memories. But I thought it would at least get me started. I thought I could get used to posting consistently through this project and then eventually work in my marketing business, Mixie Media. But something else happened instead. Now, my Photo of the Day project sparks anticipation in me. I created a shortcut script with the help of ChatGPT to select the random photo of the day. I double-click “POTD Picker.app” on my desktop and I’ve given a new story to talk about. It’s quite addicting.
I’m going to continue to ride it out and see what happens.
