Random photo from my collection.

Before even getting into the subject matter of the photo, I saw the date stamped February 27, 2021. I can’t look at that date without thinking of my Dad, who lost his battle with ALS on February 27, 2010.

Do you feel that too? Some dates impact our lives so greatly that a simple day on the calendar can change our mood.

Now, with my dad on my mind, looking at a photo of Zac, I can hear Dad’s words one day when I was in college just after Zac had come over, “What about him (Zac)? He seems nice.” I responded, “Yeah, Dad, I tried that. It didn’t work out.”

It was that singular conversation that, for years, I couldn’t get out of my mind, and it was one of the reasons that Zac was so special to me. I would never get another chance to have my dad’s approval of someone, and Zac already had it.

In this photo, Zac and I are playing around with the new flash he bought me for Christmas. We’re trying to get the technique where the shutter speed and ISO are at such a setting that the entirety of the background is completely dark. It takes a bit of adjusting to get it right. Zac has always been supportive of my photography passion. Recently, he told me, “You’re photo Jess.”
