Photo of the day #1

July 29, 2015
Random photo from my collection.

At the behest of my husband Zac (and many others), I will TRY to post 1 photo a day, every day. I have decades worth of photos/photography organized meticulously on hard drives, many of which have never seen the light of day.

So, I picked a random folder and a random photo from the folder. Here’s today’s photo, completely unedited from July 29, 2015. I wish this wouldn’t have been the random photo, but rather than lie and pick a different photo I feel it’s only fair and honest to stick with it. I just wish it wouldn’t have been such a polarizing photo.

One of my first freelance customers was a firearms manufacturer. I was really excited at the time because I got a lot of work from them and I gained a lot of graphic design and advertising experience through the work that I did with them. I remember a photographer friend asking me if I was “okay with that?” and I said why? And they said because of the type of customer they were. Honestly I hadn’t even thought about it until then. But he had a point, I never considered how my doing work for them would be a reflection of me and my values. At the end of the day, I guess the answer was yes, I’m okay with it. I have friends, colleagues, and clients at both ends of the political spectrum.

Do I hate guns? No. I don’t hate guns. It’s fun to pew pew on a .22. I’m not here for a gun debate. I do condemn hatred and violence. I do believe that gun owners have the utmost responsibility to safety.

I have so many beautiful landscape photos and intriguing still-lifes that I would have rather randomly picked and shared with you. But today I’m showing you a photo from a series of product photos, which was then used for an advertisement in an industry magazine.
